For nonprofits in Colorado
Is your nonprofit still in good standing?
A nonprofit that goes three years without filing its annual IRS return or e-Postcard loses its federal tax exemption automatically. Miss a state report and your corporation or charity registration can lapse too. For $149 we read your federal and home-state records and send you a report that says what is in order and what needs fixing by when.

Start with the free lookup
Search about three million organizations on the IRS revocation list, Publication 78 and the e-Postcard file. The result is free here, and the IRS's own Tax Exempt Organization Search is free too.
Free and instant, with no sign-up. It reads the public IRS files, and the IRS's own lookup is free too.
The three-year rule
Exemption ends after three missed years
A treasurer moves on, or nobody knows the e-Postcard is due every year. The IRS revokes exemption on the due date of the third missed filing, then posts the organization on a public list that anyone can search, donors and grantmakers included.
organizations were posted to the IRS revocation list in the 12 months to October 13, 2026.

is how long the simplest path back stays open, counted from the later of the posting date or the revocation letter.
Revenue Procedure 2014-11, Section 4.
What it checks
Three sets of public records, read together
Federal exemption
The IRS master file of exempt organizations, the automatic revocation list, and Publication 78, the list donors use to confirm a gift is deductible.
Four years of filings
Each of the last four tax years, on file or missing, from the IRS e-Postcard file and e-file index, cross-checked against ProPublica’s copy of filed returns.
If filings have stopped, the report gives the date a third missed year would end exemption.
Your home state
Colorado: Secretary of State standing, periodic reports and charity registration, read from the state’s open data.
The report then lists the fixes in order, each with its steps, cost and deadline and a source on every line. If your exemption was already revoked, it sets out the four IRS paths back and the one your record points to.
Not covered: state tax exemptions, sales tax, payroll, local licenses, and charity registration in states other than your home state.

What the report looks like
We built this sample the same way we build every paid report. The organization and its records are fictional. The rules, sources and wording are the real ones.
- What is already in order comes first
- Then each fix, with its deadline and cost
- Each record, the filing years, the dates for your calendar
- A numbered source on every line

Questions
Are you the IRS or a state office?
No. We are a private company, not part of the IRS or any state, and not affiliated with either. You can look up these records yourself for free.
Which states do you cover?
Colorado. The federal part works for any U.S. nonprofit, but the order form asks for a home state and offers only Colorado for now.
If your organization is based somewhere else, please hold off ordering. Write to hello@nonprofitstanding.com and ask to hear when your state is added.
What do I need to order?
The organization’s legal name, its nine-digit EIN, its home state and an email address for the report. The EIN is on your IRS determination letter and on past filings, and the free lookup above finds it by name.
How soon does the report arrive?
By email, within one business day of your order. When two IRS files disagree about your organization, a person checks the live IRS lookup before the report goes out.
What if the report finds a problem?
It lists each fix in order: the filing, the fee if there is one, the deadline and where to file, with a source on every line. The e-Postcard and the Colorado state filings are made online.
Your officers file. We do not file, sign or submit anything for you.
We were already revoked. Is this still for us?
Yes. The report shows the revocation and posting dates, the years that lapsed, the four reinstatement paths the IRS publishes in Revenue Procedure 2014-11, and the one your record points to, with the form and the IRS fee.
Is this legal or tax advice?
No. The report is information from public records and the steps the agencies publish. We are not a law firm or an accounting firm, and we do not represent anyone before the IRS or a state.
What is the free re-check?
Within 60 days of delivery, reply to the delivery email and we read the same records again and send you an updated report. It helps most after you file something and the public files have caught up.
How current are the records?
The IRS bulk files trail the live IRS lookup by days or weeks, so each report shows the date of every file it read. A person checks the live IRS lookup by EIN on the day the report is released.
What is your refund policy?
We refund the full $149 if you cancel before we send your report or if we cannot produce it. Once we send your report, the sale is final. Your free re-check within 60 days of delivery still applies. If you show us a factual error in a report, we correct it at no charge.
What do you keep about us?
Your email address, the name you give and the organization you ordered for, so we can deliver the report, run the re-check and handle refunds. Stripe takes the payment, and we never see your card number. Searches on this site are not stored with anything that identifies you.
